The big motorcycle helmet debate is brewing again in Maine. We currently don't have a helmet law, but the some lawmakers have introduced one again, and the gov'ner's behind it. Of course all the motorcyclists (well, some anyway) are up in arms about their "freedom". Since I've started cycling (helmeted), I'm having less patience with motorcyclists who don't wear them. Maybe they should be allowed not to wear one only if they prove they have the means to pay for their own hospitalization/group home/funeral expenses out of pocket, so my taxes and insurance are not affected.
Since those using the "freedom" argument say they don't want the rest of us telling them what to do for their own good, maybe they'll respect an argument based on the good of the rest of us instead, and to hell with
their good!
Or am I getting old and conservative?
