Convert Schwinn Coronado for front hub kit?

What will be required to convert a Schwinn Coronado to use a front wheel electric kit. Is there any way to "fix" the front shock or render it a non-working shock without replacing the whole fork? This bike will only occasionally use the electric assist for small distances at slow speeds. Its purpose is to get me motivated to get on my bike and not worry about getting too tired to peddle 2 blocks up hill pulling a child trailer to get home. I’d like to make this bike safer yet avoid getting any work done at a bike shop ie getting a new front fork installed and painted to match etc. I need to be stealth and live in a small town and can’t trust our “only” bike shop to not gossip and tip anyone off to my “illegal” electric bike. I’d like to consider an easy kit like the Wilderness kit that I could manage installing myself. How unsafe would this bike really be if I only rode occasionally at slow speeds up hill about 2 blocks?
