When you have more money than time, it doesn't make sense to do things that can be done by people with lower hourly rates, unless you're doing because you enjoy it.
That is precisely the sentiment of some of my more affluent customers. One of them said once "this ain't my damn hobby-it's a means to an end! I need to stay fit and this is the only thing I can stand doing for long enough to get there!"
I still do ALL work on my own cars, but it's more of my hobby than cycling, which is now my livlihood. This also means if my wife wants her bike fixed quickly, she will ask one of my employees, rather than me! But I admit it blows my mind when I hear what someone paid for a brake job on their car, when I know how easy it is (for me) and how cheap I can do it. But I need to remind myself not everyone
wants to do it! They'd rather just just trade some cash for
not having to do it.
Bottom line: quite a few people want nothing to do with the mechanical end of the bike experience. They just wanna ride. And that's just fine.
