Known Velocity Tubular rim issues. Any??
I recently had my PT rebuilt to a Velocity tubular rim. Had a front wheel also built to match with DT Swiss 240 hub. I went to put the tires on it and had an incredibly difficult time getting the tires centered. They looked centered, but the moment I went to inflate them, they wold show they were obviously not centered. This happened on both rear and front. After several attempts with new tires, I decided to try a used tire to see if this was just the new tires and not the new rims. Same result in several attempts!! Now, it is not like I am new to tubulars or anything. I have been riding tubulars exclusively for years without these issues ever. I have several wheel sets in carbon and never had these issues before either, which is why I finally had t default to maybe something unique about these wheels. All the attempts above were with tape by the way, which is what I have been using for the past year+. After I got tired of wasting tape/money, I decided to use glue instead and give it another try. Glue on the rim and tires went as I normally do. I then mounted the tires as centered as could and inflated them to 140 PSI overnight as normally do. I must say I had the hardest time I have ever had getting the tires to go. They are not dead on centered either, but close enough for my taste.
So, the question is: is there some inherent known issue with the Velocity Tubular rims centering the tire and such? Is my experience a common thing or did I just have an incredibly hard time for unknown reasons?
