I would think that too, but I've read multiple times where people have no receipt and they get the bearings replaced. I wonder how many bearings they actually do need to replace..... we'll never know of course. Yes, I would not want to get stuck with a high replacement bearing cost either. That's the risk of proprietary designs where they are the only choice for service.

Some companies though.... don't ask for proof of purchase for warranty work, as they place great value on keeping their goods usable. In the clothing world..... Patagonia, Marmot, Mountain Hardware etc. repair their clothing with no need for proof of purchase. Marmot and MH have even modified cuffs for me at N/C. Sometimes Patagonia will even replace items at N/C.
