Valygrl has good suggestion. I'll add doing her "Grand Loop" but going north at Grand Lake over going towards the south. Slightly more remote but just as spectacular...some less traffic too

Here's a great southern route. Some sections are along the I25 but those aren't that bad. The loop around the Spanish Peaks is spectacular.
