105 Brifter vs Ultegra and DA

Tuesday night I destroyed my FD during a crit. I went to trim the FD while standing on the pedals on an up hill and accidently shifted to the small ring. The FD kind of just disentigrated. I know what I did wrong, so that isn't my question.

My question is...

I have to replace the 105 FD. I would like to get rid of the no feed back feel that the 105 brifter has when going to the small ring. My other bike is all Ultegra (Tarmac Pro). Is that lack of feel/strange shifting action in the brifter (since it is a Double/Triple dual use lever) or the FD, or is it a combination? My Tarmac shifts perfectly. This bike (an Allez Sport Compact Double) has always shifted fine in every direction except to the small ring, where it feels like the lever is not connected to anything.

Thanks
