Yeah right hooks usually occur when the driver comes too quickly for the cyclist to react. When the car is a truck more often than not the cyclist will die in a right hook.
The fact that the BL stops at the intersection shouldn't make it a
lane anymore. Or it should have dedicated lights. Or you should systematically stop at each intersection. Or you should take the car lane on the left. Needless to say bike "lanes" are dangerous. I hope the guy makes it.
