If you don't like the bike, sell it and try again.

I sell bikes all the time that don't work for me. I also buy everything used on ebay though, so I never lose money (and often make money) when I resell a bike.

I'm confused by your comment about being stuck with a "heavy" bike though, and then mentioning the Bad Boy and the Trek. Aren't they going to be at least as heavy as the tricross?

I bought a Bad Boy once that someone had done a high-end custom build on. For whatever reason, I hated that bike. I literally had to force myself to ride it the second and third time to work. Sold it for what I paid for it about two weeks after I bought it and never looked back.
