Posting in reverse (asking for a bike instead of searching for one) can also yield results... I was in the same boat as you in January and had no idea what I wanted, so I just posted a WANTED: Road Bike blah blah blah, in CL and I got all kinds of responses from people that might not have posted their offerings before. I was THISCLOSE to buying a Specialized Allez, but it was just a bit too big for me. So I went to the LBS and got a Fuji for under $500. But that's another story.
