That makes no sense... you have to do more distance than the longest you've trained
at some point in order to increase your distance. At some point more distance is just more distance and as long as your fuel properly and ride at a maintainable pace. If your goal is to ride a century, you don't have to ride a century before you can ride a century or you would never get to ride a century.
Edit: I will agree that for a fast century it would be best to have built up to that distance and also work on intensity.
