It is perfectly reasonable to get together for social purposes. But if that's the point, there's nothing special about CM--it's just another group ride, albeit one that gets out of hand from time to time.
Yeah, by the same logic, communion is where we get together and drink grape juice and the Manhattan Project was where we got together and did a little math in the desert!
