My Bianchi road bicycle has been making a noise for a couple of weeks. When I'm sitting or standing and move the handlebars from side to side, a creaking sound occasionally comes from somewhere around the headtube/headset. It seems to be worse when I put more weight at the front of the bicycle. If I apply the front brake and rock the bicycle backwards and forwards there isn't any travel in the front forks. The sound is like a series of metallic "pings" if that makes sense.
I'm not really knowledgable about bicycle repairs so I didn't want to start tightening/loosening parts in case I did something wrong. Is there any safe way to do this or would it need to be checked by a professional?
Thanks
