No float will make your knees very unhappy until you know exactly where to put the pedals, that's why pedals have float. For your first pair i would recommend something with either a lot of float or adjustable float so you can figure out what you like.

For my ride around bike I use Candy SL pedals with some old Sidi mountain bike shoes (I use them on my mountain bikes too, so I use them on my commuter and fixed)

For my road bikes I use Sidi Zephyrs with Speedplay Zero Ti pedals.
