You have nothing to worry about. I researched baggage allowances for Virgin Atlantic and here's the scoop.

Your bike bag can weigh up to 70lbs.....that's massive. This is in addition to your checked baggage allowance as the bike is classed as sporting equipment. When I traveled to Europe recently I just packed all my clothes in with my bike, so I only had one checked bag, I didn't even need my regular baggage allowance. Best of all
I paid nothing extra to put my bike on the plane. Seems like you are looking for a problem where none exists as you can check your bike plus two regular bags
