Had I left on time this morning I might not have been caught in the downpour that engulfed the DC area. As it was, I spent about 20 minutes of it hanging out under the 14th Street Bridge with up to a dozen other commuters waiting for the worst to pass. We chatted and watched as others would ride or jog past, oblivious to the rain. As it turns out, it was the intense lightening that seemed to keep most of us sheltered in place, the idea of crossing the long, exposed span of the bridge as the bulk of the storm remained overhead convinced us. I waited for as long as I could then took my chances. I was quickly soaked and thought better of my decision as soon as I got on the bridge, I saw 3 big strikes that seemed to hit somewhere in Northwest, exactly where I was heading. I just kept my head down and hammered. Got to work safely but thoroughly soaked. My shoes, socks, shorts, shirt, etc are currently resting atop several stacked PC's with a fan aimed at them, on "high"-they should dry out in time for me to catch the afternoon thunderstorms that are predicted for the area. Oh well.
