Inspired by some landscape art videos, I decided to do an Erie loop this summer taking my video equipment. I have been taking
pictures but somehow they don't capture the spirit of cycle tour. My first choice of route is labelled on the attachment. This could very well be my first metric millennium.
Starting from Windsor, ON, I head west and rest in Rondeau Provincial Park. Then work my way up to Niagara Falls over 2-3 days and take a break there. Then crossing the Rainbow Bridge (I wouldn't know if bicycles are allowed - but I guess there's a way) to Buffalo, NY. Then turning SW going through Erie, PN and Cleveland, OH. By the time I reach Sandusky, I'll take a ferry to Pelee Is., spend some time there, then another ferry back to mainland Canada in Leamington. I'm doing this to avoid the metropoliton areas of Detroit, and also to take a less-than-frequently-experienced boat trip. Then spend a day near Pt. Pelee, finally turning back to Windsor.
For the NE route I found
this thread and will basically follow the route (not necessarily the stops). As for the Falls to Sandusky, I don't see any thread about it. Can anyone fill me with advices? From Sandusky to Pelee I found
this website and they even list prices for bicycles, so I'm pretty sure I will be fine (except for unguarded equipment on the bike).
I will probably buy MiniDVs along the way and mail them back as necessary. Would this be a problem with scanners? No doubt I will need quite a bit of juice so I will get at least another battery pack and spend much of my resting minutes near power points... And during the free time in the summer, I'll make two videos. Making them available FREE online.
So... any suggested stops/routes on Buffalo-Sandusky Express? I'm aiming to do this in two weeks or so (April 25 - May 10 or something like that), so I can't really go way off the direct routes. Anyone en route can spare me their backyard for a night's sleepover?
