My parents have both a 90s Toyota Corolla and a 2005 Camry; when I'm driving the Corolla, it's noisy, prone to outside noise, and lacks A/C (i.e. forces me to open my windows). It's impossible to ignore the fact that you're driving, and it's probably too noisy to hold a cell phone conversation. When I drive the Camry, It's so peaceful that I couldn't stare straight forwards for more than ten minutes without falling asleep.
Modern car design is to blame for probably the majority of distracted driving and falling asleep at the wheel.
