I don't think it's a coincidence that some people on popular cycling routes grow to hate cyclists. We have a road near us that was popular among cyclists starting in the '60s when the only thing on it was farms. People decided to build houses near it, and don't like the cyclists on "their" road. But the cyclists have always been there.
