Skilled cyclists do "find" their own cadences (they all don't use the same cadence). The general rule for skilled cycling is to use a higher cadence.

Nor do skilled cyclists use one particular cadence (they vary the cadence they use).

For people without any cycling experience, the "natural" cadence is quite low.

You have to train to get cadences of 80+RPM. It appears that the most energy efficient cadence is about 60-90RPM.

One issue is that some pedalling techniques don't hold up at higher cadences.

For me, a sustained cadence of <70RPM or so is uncomfortable.
