well I am type 1 but don't ride long distance per se...I often kick out 130 miles a day for 3 days but those are day rides where I just end up back home. All I carry is powerbars, clif bars, (emergency glucose tabs I never touch) and tons of water.
multi-day rides I would use a frio wet bag for insulin, and go buy an automobile-indoor-outdoor temp
gauge from wally world and keep that with my insulin so I can ensure it doesn't get up to 90 deg.
but I am lucky if I am riding all the time my liver behaves and I don't need to touch insulin all I do is
eat like a normal person...glucose stays around 80-120 having the levemir in the background
if you are just starting test blood every 30 min until you know exactly what your exercise and insulin are doing as far as matching your output
I have a1c of 5.5 and use mdi with flex pens and levemir nightly for basal. and last year did over 20,000 miles. this year I am on target for only 11,000 miles or so I am taking a break from riding a lot
the secret is: test test test test test that is the only answer that will -always- work
