Our tandem currently has A520 SPD pedals. We're both using MTB shoes and my wife is experiencing some pain after about 50 miles. I need to stick with the MTB shoes at least until I get a lot more experienced on a tandem, but I'm convinced I ought to switch my wife to road shoes and the SPD-SL pedals seem pretty popular. Any suggestion on an affordable women's road shoe (<$150?)?
