Just picked up a 1985 Trek 420 today (taupe w/red) for $100. 22.5" model, all original (except for handlebar tape) with Shimano Z-series, Dia-Compe brakes and Sakae crank and very few minor paint dings. Only rust appears to be on the toe clips and the tires do need to be replaced. Shifts smooth and rides great. Seeing as I am just getting started with a road bike, was this a better choice than getting a *mart bike? Should I upgrade components?
