if you can find a local coach, that would be best. it's hugely valuable IMO to be able to talk about turn 5 at local X crit and have the coach understand what you're talking about. a local coach will have your events in mind and be able to offer specificity for those events in your training that a remote coach wont have, will be able to see you race (not just ride) and assist with coaching beyond just training plans.

if not possible to get a local because you live somewhere that coaches dont, then I would recommend someone who coaches by the methods/technology you use for training. for instance, if your a power meter guy, getting a coach who doesnt really understand training with power probably isnt going to suit you best.

good luck, finding a good coach is imo the best thing one can do to improve their fitness.
