It's just the same as how most people feel about their motorcycles. And you're right, it's like an extension of yourself, and has sort of a personality. It's not just a piece of metal, and if the owner is not there to be asked if some stranger can touch it, it should not be touched.
Most people know not to go up and touch a motorcycle.....But I guess that's not the case with a nice bike.
If I was there watching someone do what that guy did, I'd say something. But it is in public, and it is going to happen when you are not around. People are just stupid. I don't expect very much from the general public anymore.
