I had a giant cypress and made the exact tire change you did. It did make the bike faster (Yes, I corrected my computer). I ended up going back to the original tires after I got over the thrill because it made the bike's handling much twitchier and I did not like it. The ultimate speed fix was to get a real road bike and sell the cypress. It was just a very inefficient bike.
