Beautiful morning today - high 60's and sunny. Met a fellow rider on the way in on the bike path that was also taking the subway downtown, and we rode together for the last mile - nice way to start the morning. Part II of the commute after getting off the train was a trip. I commute through downtown Los Angeles on Figueroa St. on the way to USC, and it happened that there was a parade for the Lakers basketball team for winning the NBA championship. Of course, Figueroa was blocked off to cars - but not to bikes!! With no vehicular traffic to speak of, (except cops on bicycles and the occaisional cruiser), I was able to absolutely fly down that street. Usual 20 minute ride was cut to just under 10 - it was awesome!! The evening ride home will probably be the usual slog, but hey, its still better than driving.
