Stress in the cross walk
On my return trip I was riding on the sidewalk because it's wide and drivers always honk if I ride in the street. So, I was in the crosswalk of a major street, and a car wanting to turn right on red raced into the crosswalk without seeing me so that we almost collided. I always have a kind of big physical fear reaction when this happens, but I hate to dismount and walk across the street, which would reduce the danger but seriously slow me down--and I am already a slow rider. Anyway, I told the driver to stop before he entered the crosswalk, and he called me a curse word.
I know I should control myself and never, ever say anything, but the noise, heat, fear, resentment of the planet-melters, and feeling of being out of the mainstream are really getting to me. I would switch back to driving, but whenever I drive, I miss the movement of biking much too much. Also, I gave my car away. Also, I am truly worried about global warming.
My trip to work was actually great, though.
