I got buzzed by a bus today when preparing to make a left turn. I had controlled the lane for 3-4 blocks due to conditions (construction taking the road down to one lane, followed by a thru lane and a right-turn lane that gets onto a freeway, followed by a through lane and a left-turn lane for the same freeway, followed by a left turn by me a block after the freeway).

Apparently the bus got impatient and passed me on the left (just before I turned left- I started to signal and almost touched the bus!) I was in the LH tire track and the bus had two wheels in my lane and two over the double yellow. I got his bus number.

I met the head of the transportation authority last month ironically enough on Bike To Work Day (he's a cyclist, too!) I plan on sending him an email explaining what happened, and will ask him to give all the drivers some training regarding bicycles. Knowing that he's a fellow cyclist, I am going to try to approach this as an opportunity to do a little bike advocacy that most people will never hear about but will make cyclists safer. We'll see what comes of that.
