He'd have lapped me something like 5 times. Okay, he could have lapped me 3 times and still beat me to his 4k finish line by a minute or so, and I was only riding 3k meters. That works out to at least 5 laps total.

Someone ask him about that front wheel thing. Or the bike. Or the whole experience. He was one of the stars of the Olympic team that year, that's for sure.

Also former USPro champion. I want his signature on a jersey I have too. But I guess that's out for now.

He came and talked to our club last year just after Beijing. Hegg is so modest that he was almost reluctant to talk about the Olympics but of course that is what everyone wanted to hear about. I've known the guy over 15 years and I've heard few of the Olympic stories. Once he started talking though, he had some really great stories about the Olympics and the years at the training center building up to the Olympics. My wife and I had dinner with him and Kurt Stockton during the San Dimas stage race this year. Being former teammates they had some great stories about racing in the late 80s and early 90s. These were cool for me because they were from the time period before I had started racing or when I was racing juniors and looking up to those guys.
