Anyone running wide tires with narrow rims ? Any problems ?

I just got a set of 26 x 2.25 tires and want to put them on a mavic xc 717 rims, 17mm wide and in the specs for the rims it say recommended tire width 1.0 to 2.1 tire size

I was running a set of tires 2.0 no problems

I know I need a wider rim, but no funds to buy a new wheelset

So, can I just lower the pressure on the tires? Is there any possibility of these tires blowing off the rims? or any other problems?
