That is correct, I purchased the two mode torch. From my readings, the more modes a torch has the possibility of more to go wrong.
I'd like to thank everyone for the kudo's, I think my reading payed off. I will definetly post my findings, with pictures for all to scrutinize.

If the Aurora 2 mode single 18650 is anything like 2 x 18650 2 mode Aurora I have, (which is quite likely) then you'll probably find that the low mode is set by a resistor in the tailcap. Then again, as it's 1 x 18650, it could have a completely different driver
Every time I use mine I use it on both high and low with complete reliability so far.
I couldn't be happier with it, my final choice was between the Aurora and the MTE and I'm glad I settled on the one I did.
