Garmin Nuvi and maps from mapmyride.com

Has anyone used a car GPS (Garmin Nuvi 760 in this case) loaded with a.gpx map from mapmyride.com?
If so, what are your experiences from using such a combination? I have moved to a new city, and want to find some workout loops before I join a local road cycling group. Since I don't want to spend the money on a bicycle-specific GPS device, I thought I would use my car's GPS (put in a jersey's pocket) in conjunction with earphone(s) to follow text-to-speach voice prompts of a car GPS device loaded with a bike route. Since I'll be cycling in a fairly urban environment, the street names will be changing frequently so it is going to be impossible to ride with a printed map.
Thanks for your opinions/suggestions.
