I would definitely second the suggestion above for the Cane Creek levers...or the Tektro equivalent that are around $20. VERY good deal. I run the Tektro levers on my commuting bike. They are sharp looking, comfortable and work very well. I also looked into the older shimano levers, but not only were they more expensive, I'd used similarly shaped levers (older levers) and found them to be extremely uncomfortable. These levers are a copy of the Campy Ergo levers and I've found them to be quite nice. (I've never used actual campy levers).

I looked around before ordering to see if there was a difference between Cane Creek and Tektro, and all information pointed toward them being the exact same product, simply branded differently...Plus, the Tektro levers didn't have the same (cheap looking IMO) texture on rubber hoods. I got the silver ones instead of the black, and I couldn't be happier. Good luck in your shopping, but I'll say that you'll get the same info from the SS/FG crowd. These are pretty much the best option out there....and just happen to be extremely cheap too. No compromises here.
