I have the Tektros on my commuter, and they have a surprisingly nice feel for what I paid ($16 from Jenson). The only thing I don't like about them is how blocky they are. I feel like they could be more narrow at the back (next to the handlebar) to make a smoother transition from the brake body to the bars.

In your case, I would be sorely tempted to get some nice Shimano levers. However, they just don't transition smoothly from the bars to the hoods. I found them to be pretty uncomfortable on a previous bike. The Tektro levers are much more ergonomic, despite being a bit chunky (IMO).
