You might want to take this to the clyde forum.

I would ride whichever one is more comfortable. Higher cadence doesn't necessarily lead to losing more calories. Concentrate on riding more often and for longer periods.

For the saddle soreness, make sure that you have decent bike shorts. Also, it takes a little time to get used to the saddle. As you saw wider saddles are sometimes worse.
