Be ultra cautious around pedestrians on MUPs. They do not understand bicycle. They may be wearing earphones too small to see. They may be completely oblivious to the world around themselves. You are the equivalent of an automobile in this situation and there is a tendency to apply blame the same as if a car struck a pedestrian on the street.

I have been knocked over by pedestrians while waiting motionless by a trail gate waiting for an opportunity to pass through!
