The poly carbonite is designed to crack like that instead of bending, thus bending the spider on the cranks. I'd sooner spend $60 to replace the cracked bash ring than to cough up $200 for a new crankset.

I've cracked one E13 bash guard 4 years ago and they took care of me, had a new one in my mail box a couple of days later and it's currently on the dmr. It's taken tons of hits to it and is still intact, will likely need to replace it soon.
