On mine the tubes are anodized and they were clean and shiny. The lugs and dropouts are in bare aluminum and I was able to get a pretty decent polish on them.
You're right on the name. According to the
AlAn USA website it's a combination of the owner's two children's names.
And despite what you might have heard, the name ALAN comes from the combination of the first two letters of the first names of Sr. Falconi’s children, Alberto and Annamarie.
