San Marco Regal saddle - question about rails

I just bought a 1980's Marnati with Campy Super Record components and a white San Marco Regal saddle that looks original to the bike.

The rails on the saddle are square and sort of bulky at the back, and look like they might be aluminum instead of steel (they are dull and not chromed like the ones on my Rolls saddle). I just can't imagine aluminum rails would hold up on a saddle.

Is this usual for a Regal, or is it some special version? I'm curious because they look nothing like the rails on my late model Rolls saddle. I'd post pictures but my digital camera was recently stolen.
