This unfortunate event spotlights a major problem for bicyclists and an even greater challenge for pedestrians -- how do we secure the attention of a motorist in an enclosed cage? As a pedestrian, I have often worried about being struck by a right-on-red or left-on-red* turner when crossing the street with a green light and contraflow to traffic.
