chainring/chainline questions

Since the first day I flipped my back wheel over to the fixed side, I've had to move my chainring to behind my crankarm spider in order to achieve a semi-normal chainline (it's still off by a mm or two). I've been dealing with it but the way it looks is really starting to bug me.

This may seem like a dumb question but how do I correct this in order to properly have my ring on the outside of my spider? Is it as simple as getting a shorter BB spindle?
