Since most of my rides are 'getting exercize', I do not push myself a whole lot. So what keeps me motivated is knowing that my heart is healthier, my lungs are doing more and i will feel better at the end. I also use the next telephone pole method sometimes. OR last night i was busy thinking of my cadence to keep my legs from cramping,,,going against the wind on the way home.
enjoy the ride...I suppose that is my other motivator, I enjoy the ride or make it enjoyable.

When it stops being fun something is wrong and you are just pushing too hard. I push myself mostly when I feel like it... when I don't, I don't.
