There's a link to this site ( http://www.peak.org/~fixin/personal/fmu/php/formfmu.php )in SB's conversion site that I found particularly helpful converting my horizontally dropout challenged bike. Measure the chainstay length, enter that info into the form, press return and voila!, chainring/cog combos that'll fit with minimal filing.
Looks like a cool project to me.
