So, there you have it. There're pinned or sleeved and maybe it will polish out, maybe it won't. I eventually got tired enough of the situation that I started making sure that I purchased only welded rims. Others will apparently consider me picky. I really don't think that realatively silent or at least consistant braking is too much to ask of a $3K bicycle. Others apear to disagree.
