Unmaintained Orbea Delta 312 - worth fixing up?

Hi everyone,

When my wife and I bought our current house, about ten years ago, the previous owners gave us a bunch of things that they didn't need/want any more.

One of these was a bike that needed some work. It was too small for me but I thought maybe I'd fix it up someday for my son who was 1 at the time.

Fast forward to now - the bike hasn't been maintained, has been outside a good number of winters when we just didn't care about it etc so I was getting ready to give it the heave ho when I decided to, on a whim, look up the make/model to see if there was demand for parts.

It's an Orbea Delta 312. I can't find the model referenced anywhere but new Orbeas go for nontrivial bucks.

I used to do all my own bike work so I think I can refurbish it myself if it's worth it if at the end of the process I have a good bike my son can ride for a few years. (or alternately if it's worth a significant fraction of what the new Orbeas go for, I'd sell it and get something more mundane for him; at his age I was about to switch from a massively heavy Schwinn cruiser to a sears free spirit ten speed - woohoo!)

The main problem is that all the cabling has a lot of corrosion and needs to be replaced. The rear brake cable and I think the real deraileur cables both run through the frame which is what put me off the easy attempts to repair it previously. I believe that the frame is entirely structurally sound and the wheels are true.

If there was a better subforum please just send me on my way; none of the others looked more obvious.

Thanks in advance,
Mike Grier
