The police department would give you a sticker to place on the bike. The sticker has a registration number that could be used to return the bike to you if it were lost or stolen. No, they still do this. My bike is licensed with the Seymour police department (License # 16
) Something like $3 for two years--well worth it, in my opinion, if it means the police have your serial number already on record in case of theft.
