Anybody on your group rides not exactly a strict "roadie"?

So on the group rides around here, we've had some people riding that aren't exactly full-kit roadies. They're riding "flat bar road bikes", or performance hybrids. Not strict road bikes. They keep up fine, and have learned the ropes of the pace line and stuff.

Some of the other riders just seem to have issues since they're not riding 'road bikes', and I'm wondering if you all encounter this. I know road cycling is full of snobbery, but what is your alls take on this? Is a 'road bike' a requirement, even if they're keeping up?

I personally don't think the bike matters that much, and since they're keeping up and not being annoyances, i have no real problems with it.

the rides are weekly, 'moderate' pace rides, anywhere from 18-23mph, depending on distance and terrain.

so..discuss.
