Impressions on comfort road bikes wanted

I have decided to buy a new bike around ~1K to be used for primarily for training. I currently have a Fuji Team SL which has a great pro style fit, but too small of a frame to achieve a French fit. My goal is to be able to ride long distances without ending up with a sore neck from lifting my head to look down the road. Currently, I can achieve pain free riding for rides less than 100 miles with conditioning, but would like even more comfort for the real long distance rides (double century).

I would like to hear opinions on buying a comfort road bike like the Trek 1200C or Cannondale Sport Road 500 versus just simply upsizing the frame of a traditional road geometry to achieve the relaxed riding position. Of the so called "comfort" road bikes, most have seat post suspensions which I am leary off because I have no posterior problems, just would like to put my head in a more comfortable position.

Any input?
