I don't feel I know a lot about this subject, so please consider this an honest inquiry: could there be strategies (parts) for modifying the fit of your current bike to get the fit to be more like you want it to be, i.e., higher handlebars?

I am willing to ride 300K with a standard race bike fit, but it seems to me that MAKING people ride with that kind of fit, who can't look up when they want to, would be dangerous, and I wouldn't advocate that. On the other hand, I'd like to save you the price of a new bike, unless you want to spend it (you can never be too thin or too rich or have too many bikes.....), and there are various stem extenders and steerer tube extenders and strategies for raising the handlebars that might be applicable and consistent with your desires.
